The role
As part of our Engineering and Sustainment Services group, the Systems Engineering Lead will lead a team of engineers in the development, integration, and support of military systems. They will oversee the entire systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements gathering and system design to implementation, testing, and deployment. The Lead will ensure that all engineering activities comply with industry standards and project requirements while promoting innovation and continuous improvement. This position requires close collaboration with cross‐functional teams, effective resource management, and the mentoring and development of team members to achieve technical excellence and project success.
Responsibilities
* Lead the requirements gathering process
* Oversee the development of detailed requirements documentation and traceability matrices
* Direct the creation of system architecture and detailed design specifications
* Facilitate and lead design reviews
* Provide technical leadership and guidance during the implementation phase
* Lead the execution of functional, integration, and system testing
* Manage the identification and resolution of integration issues
* Oversee the development and execution of integration testing
* Lead validation efforts to ensure the system meets all operational requirements and performance criteria in real‐world environments
* Oversee technical support activities during system deployment
* Lead the scoping, planning and estimating of engineering tasks
* Lead the tracking and management of team resources and tasks
* Perform Control Account Manager/Work Package Manager duties
* Lead and manage engineering teams, fostering talent development, team cohesion, and a culture of continuous improvement
* Develop and implement strategic plans that align engineering activities with business objectives
* Navigate complex technical challenges while ensuring innovative solutions aligned with strategic goals
About You
* At least 8 years in systems engineering, with significant experience in complex systems, military systems, and software‐intensive systems
* Tertiary qualification(s) in a systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, etc., and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry)
* Relevant professional certifications in systems engineering or related fields such as Engineers Australia (CPEng) or INCOSE (ASEP, CSEP or ESEP) (desirable)
* Proficient understanding of systems engineering principles and practices
* Proficient knowledge of complex systems and their integration
* Proficient understanding of system engineering in an ASDEFCON context
* Proficiency in using advanced systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g. DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler, Cradle, etc.)
* Leading and mentoring engineering teams, while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
* Communicating complex technical information in writing and verbally to diverse audiences
Citizenship and Security Clearance
Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain a NV1 security clearance. Information regarding past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to confirm eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
