The role of a Senior Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems at CanonicalAs a Senior Project Manager for Canonical's Devices business, this role is responsible for the coordination and completion of large, complex customer-facing projects.
The role involves overseeing all aspects of project delivery and acting as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and customers.You will manage projects involving the delivery of Ubuntu images on various devices, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems.
This high-profile position requires building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and other Canonical departments.Location: This role is remote, based in the APAC region.What your day will look likeManage projects through their lifecycle, ensuring goals for Canonical and the client are met.Deliver engineering professional services for assigned projects.Collaborate with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.Develop project statements of work.Create and maintain project schedules and plans.Obtain client agreement on schedules and work items.Ensure projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources.Manage project risk mitigation plans.Address technical issues to meet delivery outcomes.Communicate regularly with clients and stakeholders.Manage delivery schedules of third-party deliverables.Keep management informed on project status.Identify and address engineering requests outside existing contracts.Promote Canonical's technologies to customers.Support work across different time zones and non-traditional hours.Manage multiple projects simultaneously.What we are looking for in youSolid experience in managing engineering services projects, software development teams, and field engineers.Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, preferably in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture.Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships and working with demanding sponsors.PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year.What we offer youWe offer competitive compensation, annual reviews, and benefits reflecting our values, including:Distributed work environment with biannual in-person team sprints.USD 2,000 annual learning and development budget.Recognition rewards, holiday leave, maternity/paternity leave, Employee Assistance Programme.Travel opportunities and upgrades for company events.About CanonicalCanonical is a leader in open source, publishing Ubuntu, a key platform for AI, IoT, and cloud.
