Job Description
We are seeking up to 40 casual seasonal positions for Labourers on a banana farm in the Innisfail region, North Queensland. Work is due to start end of May 2026, for a period of up to 9 months.
No experience is required. You will be paid a starting rate Level 1, Casual under the Horticultural Award 2020 (MA000028). Minimum Remuneration $30.35 per hour (may be subject to change as per award July 2026) Your remuneration rate will increase to Level 2 after 3 months experience.
There may also be an opportunity to undertake training and upskilling in this role, which can allow your remuneration to increase above the Horticultural Award 2020 (MA000028). Your duties each day may include but not limited to: Field work- picking banana bunches, de-leafing, de-suckering, fixing irrigation, replanting, stringing, and other form of crop maintenance. Shed work- unloading and hanging bunches, de-handing, sorting, stickering, packing, stacking and other forms of shed operation activities.
Additional on the job training & development opportunities for successful candidates. The work will be hard and physically demanding. It will involve repetitive sorting and packing, prolonged periods of looking up, down and bending over for irrigation repairs and installation and a range of other physically demanding work activities that occurs in bananas.
A keen eye for detail is needed to ensure a high standard is maintained in sorting and packing. You will be working indoors & outdoors in hot and humid conditions with temperatures up to 35+ degrees Celsius, with high humidity. You need to be fit and in good physical condition with a positive attitude to do this work.
A minimum of 120 hours over 4 weeks will be offered, you will be expected to commence most Monday-Friday. Times may vary depending on business needs and weather. Weekend work may also be required.
