What you will do as an Assistant Director Market Surveillance

In this role you will contribute to the establishment and implementation of the AER's enhanced wholesale market monitoring and reporting functions. To date we have laid the groundwork as the first steps for the implementation of this new function, including development of a Guideline, public consultation on draft instruments, internal capability building and delivery of first collection instruments. Operating under broad direction and exercising a considerable degree of independence, the Assistant Director, Market Surveillance is responsible for:

- Information collection - Scoping requirements and preparing information collection instruments, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including formal consultation processes and managing information inflows.
- Capability building - Reviewing and defining technology development requirements to enable and uplift the delivery of the wholesale market monitoring program. Providing knowledge management and training activities to support the program, and broader AER use of the collected information effectively.
- Data management - Managing the collected confidential information across the full data lifecycle, including validation, processing, governance and quality control.
- Analysis and Reporting - Research, investigate and analyse relevant information to develop reports, advice and recommendations for AER Board's consideration, including identification of potential competition and efficiency issues.

About you

In order to succeed in the role, you will have:

- Well-developed understanding, or ability to quickly acquire an understanding of competition issues, financial risk management products, Australian electricity and gas markets and the role, purpose and objectives of the AER.
- An ability to investigate and analyse complex issues, including an ability to understand, manage and engage with data, communicate findings clearly and/or make recommendations based on that analysis.
- Experience leading a team in a fast-paced and large complex people-centred organisation.
- Tertiary qualifications in law, economics, finance, public policy or related fields is highly desirable.

Salary: $123,702 to $136,900 (plus 15.4% superannuation)
