Primary objective:
Provide meals on a daily basis to students at Tennant Creek High School that is in line with the departments School nutrition and
healthy eating policy to promote school attendance, engagement, health and wellbeing.
Context Statement:
Tennant Creek High School is a small, remote and complex remote Public School that services Tennant Creek and the general
Barkly region, catering for students from Years 7 to 12. The School Values of: Strong Brain, Strong Heart and Strong Spirit are
embedded in all school operations. We are working on embedding trauma informed practice and individualised learning pathways
across the school. Our aim is to offer a broad based, sound, inclusive education to a student cohort coming from very diverse
backgrounds. The focus of the school continues to be on attendance, participation, literacy and numeracy; a range of programs are
offered that underpin these and encourage students to explore opportunities for the future.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Plan, organise, and monitor the day-to-day operations of the canteen, including daily record-keeping, opening and closing
the canteen, preparation and cooking for service.
2. Maintain and oversee implementation of standards of hygiene and occupational health and safety in accordance with NT
Department of Health, Environmental Heath Branch, as a registered food business.
3. Ensuring all canteen workers, are familiar with correct standards of hygiene and occupational health and safety.
1. Ensure that a stock take is undertaken at the end of each school term.
2. Plan, schedule and supervise all aspects of food ordering and preparation.
3. Report all maintenance issues and adhering's to WH and S policies and procedures.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound level of written, oral and digital communication skills.
2. Ability to manage staff and mentor employees.
3. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
4. Proven high level of focus on customer service delivery with a friendly demeanour.
5. Proven ability to plan and oversee the preparation of meals for large groups of clients.
6. Understanding and ability to relate to a primary clientele of school aged children with a diverse cultural background.
7. Demonstrated confidence to address and communicate workplace expectations and attendance.
8. NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
Desirable
1. Senior First Aid Certificate.
2. Health and Safety training certificate.
3. Certificate level qualifications in food or business.
