Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Traffic Engineer to join our City Infrastructure Engineering Team. This position plays a key role in supporting the effective management of Launceston's transport network and contributing to a liveable, connected and future‐focused city.

This role delivers traffic engineering services, including modelling, technical advice, road safety assessments, and the development of contemporary transport and network solutions. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, community members and external partners to support safe and efficient transport outcomes for the region.

Responsibilities

* Planning and modelling transport network performance and future transport needs
* Conducting traffic modelling, interpreting data and preparing technical reports
* Providing engineering advice on traffic design standards, codes and acts
* Investigating road safety, parking and traffic issues and recommending solutions
* Leading line‐marking and other traffic‐related maintenance programs
* Supporting the development of forward works programs
* Responding to customer enquiries and preparing technical assessments

About You

You are an experienced engineering professional who demonstrates our organisational values through your behaviour and who is committed to improving transport safety and efficiency for our community. You bring strong analytical skills, a collaborative outlook and the ability to explain technical concepts to a wide audience.

We are looking for someone with:

* Relevant tertiary qualifications — Bachelor of Engineering (Traffic) or similar qualification with relevant transport industry experience
* Knowledge of traffic design standards, codes and relevant legislation
* Experience in transport planning, strategic network analysis or traffic engineering
* Strong skills in traffic modelling software, record management systems and Microsoft Office
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills, including preparing reports for technical and non‐technical audiences
* Commitment to high‐quality customer service and community engagement
