Senior Wastewater Engineer – Townsville City Council

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operation, maintenance, and performance of water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with EPA, DHHS, and council regulations across all water and waste assets.
- Provide expert engineering advice and support capital and operational project delivery.
- Champion safety, innovation, and continuous improvement in service delivery and team development.
About You / Qualifications
- Tertiary level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline and eligibility to obtain professional membership of Engineers Australia.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ) or eligible to obtain within 12 months.
- Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with advanced biological and chemical wastewater treatment processes.
- Proven experience in management, operations, maintenance and control of complex wastewater treatment plants, with ability to diagnose and rectify plant process problems and implement maintenance programs.
- Strong written communication, organisational, administrative and budgeting skills, including experience in technical reports, operational procedures and site-based management plans.
- Ability to assess and interpret complex engineering problems within wastewater systems and develop practical solutions balancing environmental compliance, economic efficiency, and asset performance.
- People management, time management and prioritising skills.
- Current C class driver’s licence.
What We Offer
- Permanent Full Time opportunity (9 day fortnight, 36.25 hours/week).
- Salary: LGO 8 ($113,644 - $128,384 per annum + superannuation) or ET8 (degree qualified) ($124,553 - $137,989 per annum + superannuation), based on skills, qualifications and experience.
- 17.5% annual leave loading; up to 5 weeks annual leave; up to 3 weeks Personal/Carers Leave; 14 weeks paid Parental Leave; Domestic and Family Violence Leave; Natural Disaster Leave.
