The Tasmanian State Service (TSS) is the largest employer in Tasmania, with over 28,000 employees providing services to the Tasmanian community at all levels. The Launceston General Hospital is recruiting for Senior Paediatric Registrar and Paediatric Registrar positions for 2026. With the implementation of the new EBA offering competitive wages and paid education time, now is an excellent time to work in Tasmania.
We are a regional hospital with a new Paediatric short stay unit, a 34-bed General Paediatric ward, a 12-bed Level 2 neonatal nursery, and Paediatric outpatient services. The unit operates 24 hours a day, staffed by registrars and HMO staff, with consultant oversight during working hours and on-call overnight. Currently, staffing includes 9 registrars/HMOs, a Senior Registrar, and 7 paediatric consultants.
We pride ourselves on being a supportive team. The unit offers an active education program and is accredited by the RACP for Advanced Training in General Paediatrics with a Perinatal Component, Community/Developmental Paediatrics, and Rural rotations. It is also a secondment site for basic trainees from the Royal Hobart Hospital. For early career doctors, this position provides valuable experience prior to entering the RACP training program.
The Role:
1. General Paediatrics, including ward and Emergency department presentations, as well as the Short Stay Unit.
2. Neonatal ward care for babies from 32 weeks gestational age, with approximately 1500 deliveries annually.
3. Paediatric outpatient services, covering medical and developmental cases, including an Ambulatory Care unit.
4. Rotating roster across all these areas.
Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all selection criteria required for your application.
