As a Principal Legal Officer in DPIRD, you\'ll have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully while enjoying a supportive work environment. As a senior member of the Legal Team, you will: Provide expert legal services and advice to support strategic decision-making. Supervise and mentor legal staff to ensure quality service delivery. Draft and review legal and Departmental documents, including advice, instruments and briefs. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proactively manage legal risks and develop solutions. work across the range of portfolio functions including agriculture, biosecurity, fisheries, forestry, local land services, mining, mine safety and regional development. About You

As our ideal candidate, you will have: Ability and experience in delivering expert, risk-based and client-focused legal advice to senior executives to support decision-making and manage legal risk. Strong skills in drafting, reviewing, and finalising legal documents including legislation, contracts, Cabinet submissions, and briefing materials. Demonstrated capability in building and maintaining senior-level relationships Experience in supervising legal teams to deliver timely, high-quality work, manage priorities, escalate risks, and balance workloads. Skills in identifying legal risks and non-compliance, and developing practical, collaborative solutions, including developing organsational capacity Expertise may include one or more of the following areas: administrative law and statutory interpretation, legislative reform, commercial and property law and transactions, government law, native title, and regulatory and compliance functions.
