About the role
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting the university'sdata and communications networkinfrastructure, including core network, data centre, private and publiccloud, campus, and remote site connectivity.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, implement, operate and maintain the company's network infrastructure in line with Universityand IT policy, principles and guidelines.
* Install, configure and troubleshoot network and security infrastructure, both physical and virtual routers,switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
* Provide advice and technical support to end-users
* Define, document and enforce developing and the implementation of standard ITO network operatingprocedures and processes.
* Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve issues.
* Secure network system by establishing, monitoring and enforcing access policies.
* Plan and schedule network system upgrades and replacements, including business stakeholderengagement and ensuring successful completion within planned timeframes.
* Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing.
* Maintain depth of knowledge and keep up-to-date with emerging networking technologies andrecommend updates or improvements to university network infrastructure
Qualifications, skills & experience
* A degree with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevantexperience and/or education/training
* 3+ years' experience designing, implementing and operating large and complex enterprise-grade networkinfrastructure
* Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP, Azure Networkingor equivalent certification (desirable)
* Engineering experience across all aspects of LAN/WAN, wireless and VoIP networks
* Exposure to and understanding of Software-Defined Access (SDA) and Software Defined Network (SDN)architectures
* Proven knowledge of AD, DHCP, DNS for user authentication, group policy management, and integrationwith network services like 802.1X authentication and privilege identity management
* Hands-on experience with Cisco ASA firewalls and Firepower Management Centre including policymanagement, intrusion prevention, VPN configuration
* Experience with, and good understanding of cloud networking architecture, concepts and technologies
* Proficiency in using network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, Zabbix, Nagios, Netbox
* Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
