About the Role
The Civil Superintendent is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and execution of civil construction activities on pipeline projects. This role ensures works are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The Superintendent provides strong on-site leadership, manages supervisors and subcontractors, and acts as the primary interface between site operations and project management.

Project Delivery
* Lead and coordinate all civil works associated with pipeline construction, including earthworks, trenching, pipe laying, backfilling, access roads, crossings, and reinstatement.
* Develop and implement construction methodologies, sequencing, and short-term lookahead programs.
* Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, and project schedules.
* Monitor progress and productivity, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions where required.
* Coordinate with engineering, surveying, quality, and environmental teams to ensure seamless delivery.
* Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with WHS legislation, company policies, and project-specific HSE plans.
* Lead toolbox talks, pre-starts, and safety briefings.
* Ensure all works are conducted in accordance with risk assessments, SWMS, and permits.
* Proactively identify hazards and implement controls to minimise risk to personnel, the environment, and the community.
Leadership & People / Stakeholder Management
* Provide leadership and direction to Site Supervisors, Leading Hands, and field crews.
* Manage subcontractors and labour hire personnel to ensure performance, quality, and safety expectations are met.
* Mentor and develop site personnel, fostering accountability and high performance.
* Promote positive working relationships with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
* Liaise with clients, landowners, local authorities, and utility providers as required.
* Coordinate interfaces with other disciplines and contractors to minimise disruption and delays.
Quality & Compliance
* Ensure quality standards are met and maintained across all civil activities.
* Oversee inspections, testing, and sign-off of works in accordance with project quality plans.
* Ensure compliance with environmental approvals, heritage requirements, and land access conditions.
Commercial & Reporting
* Assist with cost control, forecasting, and resource planning.
* Review and manage variations, delays, and site-based claims in conjunction with the Project Manager.
* Provide accurate and timely reporting on progress, issues, incidents, and risks.
* Maintain site records, diaries, and documentation.
Experience
* Experience working with various pipe types and materials (e.g., PVC, HDPE, concrete, ductile iron)
* Experience with Sewer and water mains, Stormwater drainage systems, Stormwater Culverts, Working in Wastewater Pump Stations (WWPS), Road construction including subgrade preparation, base layers, kerb & channel, and asphalt surfacing.
* Proven experience in a Superintendent or Senior Supervisor role
Knowledge and skills
* Strong knowledge of water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure installation
* Familiarity with reading and interpreting civil construction plans and specifications
* understanding of excavation, trenching, and shoring safety requirements
* Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability
* Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
* High level of organisation and time management
* Excellent understanding of WHS and environmental management systems
* Minimum 8–10 years' experience in civil construction, with significant experience on pipeline or linear infrastructure projects

Qualifications
* Trade qualification or tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (preferred)
* White Card (Construction Induction)
* Relevant plant, first aid, and safety certifications (desirable)
