Their expertise covers roadworks, earthworks, sewer and water reticulation, stormwater drainage, land reclamation, marine works, jetty construction, limestone walls, concrete works, and landscaping. APH Contractors is currently seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to safely and efficiently operate excavators and associated attachments across civil and construction worksites. The role involves completing earthworks, trenching, loading, lifting and site preparation to project specifications, while maintaining plant, coordinating with the site team, and meeting productivity, quality and safety expectations.
This is a full-time role with an annual salary of $76,515 to $77,000 plus superannuation.
Responsibilities
* Conduct pre-start inspections, identify hazards, and set up the excavator and work area for safe operation in line with site procedures.
* Position the excavator accurately for digging, lifting and loading activities, using spotters, barricades and exclusion zones where required.
* Choose, install, adjust and remove attachments such as buckets, augers, rock breakers, grabs and lifting gear to suit the task.
* Operate excavator controls to excavate, trench, batter, level, backfill, break and load material (soil, rock, rubble and spoil) efficiently and to specification.
* Regulate machine functions (pressure, speed and flow) and make fine control adjustments to maintain stability, accuracy, and safe clearances.
* Lift, lower and manoeuvre attachments using hydraulic and manual controls, ensuring loads are secured and movements are controlled.
* Interpret drawings, service plans, markers, and verbal instructions to complete set‑out, trench lines, depths, slopes, and compaction requirements.
* Work around underground and overhead services with care, following dial‑before‑you‑dig information and safe approach distances.
* Communicate clearly with supervisors, truck drivers and ground crew via radio/hand signals to coordinate loads, traffic, and sequencing.
* Carry out routine servicing, cleaning and lubrication; refuel, check fluids, and complete daily plant checklists and logbooks.
* Identify and report faults, and perform minor adjustments within competency to minimise downtime and maintain plant reliability.
* Maintain work quality and environmental controls (dust, noise, sediment and spoil placement) and keep the work area tidy and compliant.
* Follow WHS requirements, risk assessments and safe work method statements at all times, and stop work when conditions are unsafe.

* High-level machine control and ability to work to tight tolerances and specifications.
* Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
* Clear communication and teamwork skills when working with spotters and ground crew.
* Mechanical awareness to monitor performance and identify emerging faults early.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work in varying weather and site conditions.
Qualifications
* Should possess a Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations (Preferred).
* Must have at least one to two (1‑2) years of experience in a similar setting.
