The Foreman is responsible for the successful delivery of the Project or a portion of the project under his control.
The Foreman must have a detailed knowledge of building and building processes.
The Foreman must be a Team Player with strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with site management Consultants, colleagues and subcontractors/suppliers.
Duties and Responsibilities
People Management
* Take the lead role in developing and maintaining the company Culture in line with the Company Goals.
* Ensure site personnel are aware of project goals
* Effective delegation of tasks to direct report(s) in relation to skill and ability.
* Make recommendations to the Site Manager and Project Manager with regard to the suitability of direct reports.
* Provide team leadership and motivation to all site personnel.
* Participate/ conduct performance and development reviews on direct reports and ensure that duties and responsibilities as detailed in specific Position Descriptions are being met and if not develop a plan to ensure direct reports are able to perform their duties.
Formal Communication
* Liaise with Site Manager or Project Manager in order to issue "Request for Information" (R.F.I.) to Consultants and Subcontractors as required.
* Liaise with Site Manager or Project Manager in order to issue Site Instructions to Subcontractors and Suppliers as required.
* Arrange, attend and participate in all relevant meetings.
* Keep site diaries up to date and record relevant information to the area of your works including photographic records as appropriate.
Contract Administration
* Assess the project buildability to optimise the construction process.
* Planning and procurement of materials to ensure adherence to the construction program.
* Ensure that all delivery dockets are signed and issued to the Project Co‐ordinator with a description of where the product was used.
* Ensure that material registers on concrete, brickwork, reinforcement, are kept.
* Variations to be identified and information to be passed onto Project Manager for action.
* Sub Contractors day labour dockets are not to be signed without prior approval from the Project Manager.
* Once day labour works are agreed the written description of works undertaken is to be clear and concise.
* Provide input into Subcontractor's scope of works prior to contract award and post completion of contract works.
Construction Programming & Site Supervision
* Prepare, monitor and action Short Term programs to meet construction program deadlines and issue to the project staff and Subcontractors.
* Review the Subcontractors performance and in conjunction with the Site Manager or Project Manager take appropriate action to ensure compliance with the Construction Program.
* Add value to construction through innovation/creativity.
* Co-ordinate site activities under your control
* Deal with all site establishment and materials handling requirements.
* Ensure Lipman plant and equipment is maintained, secured and kept in good working order.
* 'Build in' prototypes and develop staged handover strategies to ensure defects free and on time objectives are satisfied.
Quality, Safety and Environment
General
* Take any reasonable actions consistent with the responsibilities of the position and subject to any limitations set by the Project Manager, Site Manager, General Foreman, or Operations Manager and Lipman's policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Implement and administer the requirements of the Project Plan ensuring work activities are carried out in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
* Implement work Zone planning strategies in consultation with your Site Manager/General Foreman or Project Manager.
* Comply with relevant statutory requirements and Lipman's QSE requirements as defined within the Project Plan.
* Identify improvements in efficiency, WHS and environmental performance, quality and cost.
* Initiate appropriate action to prevent the occurrence of incidents or defects/non-conformities relating to Lipman, supplier/subcontractors, Client or visitor activities.
* Promptly report issues relating to project works, incidents, hazards, injuries, illnesses, supplied products or services or systems of work as appropriate.
* Control activities and processes in which deficiencies or issues have been identified until corrected.
* Initiate, action or recommend solutions to rectify deficiencies or issues in a timely manner.
* Verify actions taken to resolve such deficiencies or issues are effective.
* Lead by example and promote sound QSE practices at every opportunity.
* Achieve defects free completion.
Managing WHS&E
* Conduct workplace inspections and investigate hazard reports ensuring that they are completed and corrective actions undertaken.
* Review work activities to ensure that WHS & Environmental control measures and agreed practices are implemented and effective.
* Coordinate and participate in consultative forums e.g site inductions, team meetings, toolbox talks, safety committees etc.
* Assist in preparing and reviewing Safe Work Method Statements and ITP's.
* Obtain Safe Working Statements from Subcontractors and ensure compliance to same.
* Issue safety instructions to offenders of WHS Act and ensure rectifications are carried out.
* Ensure all personnel on site undertake a site induction prior to commencement.
* Maintain Incident Reports and issue copies to Group Manager – Safety.
* Participate and assist in incident investigations as required.
* Correctly use and maintain personal protective equipment.
* Trade qualifications in the Building Industry.
* Proven experience as a Foreman or similar role in construction
* Strong knowledge of construction processes, safety protocols, and regulations
* Excellent leadership and organizational skills
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong problem-solving capabilities and a proactive attitude
* Relevant certifications or qualifications in construction management is an advantage
