Policy Director – Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council
Do you have what it takes to lead policy for one of Australia’s most complex and strategically important agricultural industries?
The Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council (ALEC) is seeking an experienced and high-performing policy professional to join as Policy Director.
Reporting directly to the CEO and working within a small, high-impact team, you will lead the development and execution of policy and advocacy strategies on behalf of Australia’s livestock export industry.
ALEC represents exporters who are global leaders in animal welfare and supply chain assurance, operating in highly regulated and scrutinised international markets.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading ALEC’s policy and advocacy strategy across regulatory, trade and integrity frameworks
* Acting as a senior interface with key regulators, including the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority
* Developing high-quality, evidence-based policy positions and submissions
* Engaging directly with member companies on priority issues and emerging risks
* Representing the industry in government, parliamentary and industry forums
* Supporting industry engagement on integrity systems and regulatory compliance
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Strong experience engaging with government, regulators and complex stakeholder environments
* Sound judgement and the ability to operate effectively in politically sensitive contexts
* Experience developing persuasive, evidence-based policy positions
* The ability to build credibility with a commercially focused member base
* A high degree of initiative and the ability to operate both independently and as part of a close-knit team
* Resilience and professionalism in the face of public and stakeholder scrutiny
Experience in the agricultural sector is desirable but not essential.
The role is based in Canberra. A competitive remuneration package will be offered.
