Are you a hands-on technician with experience in vehicle fit-outs, communications systems, or electrical installations? This is a rare opportunity to secure a permanent role within the SA State Government, supporting critical emergency services operations across South Australia.
As an Operational Projects Technician, you'll play a key role in ensuring that fleet and technical equipment is operational, safe, and ready to support frontline services. This includes working on vehicle electrical and communication systems, integrating technology such as Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) tracking, and providing technical support that directly contributes to emergency response capability.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Delivering technical work on government vehicles including fault diagnosis, repairs, and system upgrades.
* Installing and maintaining AVL and other communications technology to support real-time tracking and operational effectiveness.
* Ensuring all fleet and equipment meet compliance, safety, and operational standards.
* Maintaining accurate technical records and providing advice to stakeholders.
* Coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and emergency service staff across both metro and regional locations.
What We're Looking For:
* Proven experience in vehicle fit-outs, mobile communications, or electrical/equipment integration.
* Knowledge of 12-volt vehicle systems, wiring, and communications equipment.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently under time pressures.
* Excellent communication skills to liaise with operational staff, volunteers, contractors, and suppliers.
* Certificate IV or higher in a relevant trade (automotive electrical, communications, electronics, or mechanical).
* A current Class C driver's licence (essential).
Highly Regarded:
* Experience with AVL or fleet tracking systems.
* Previous experience in emergency services, defence, automotive, or transport sectors.
* Ability to interpret technical schematics and installation drawings.
