PROCESS CHEMIST – RAW MATERIALS
Our client is a global manufacturer of oil and lubricants for the automotive and industrial applications industries.
A rare opportunity has arisen for a Process Chemist to join their team based at their Melbourne site – to test and analyse raw materials, finished oils, greases and specialty products.
The role requirements include all process chemist operations undertaken to company and legislative standards.
Duties Include:
1. Ensure that Raw Materials (additives and base oils), and lubricants manufactured and warehoused by the Facility are tested to the required technical specifications, GMP requirements and Quality Standards by effective utilization of current quality procedures and practices in accordance with the Quality, Environmental and Technical Management Systems
2. Testing and analysis of raw materials, finished oils, greases and specialty products (as applicable) using available testing equipment to achieve the specified level of quality control
3. Products tested in a timely and cost efficient manner
4. Ensure non-conforming products are not released to the marketplace
5. Understanding of lubricant QC testing methods
6. Provide customers with C of A as required for manufactured and imported products
7. Commission and validate equipment, test methods and processes as required
8. Issue accurate and timely blend sheets along with written instructions
9. Liaise with production to help overcome production related problems that may impact on product quality
10. Provide advice to production supervisors on blend and filling sequencing to maximise plant efficiency and minimise re-work
11. Provide technical advice to Blending, Filling and Warehouse Operators
12. Exercise delegated authority to stop production to correct quality problems
13. Assist with root cause investigations on non-conforming blends and fills
14. Assist with the rework and disposal of obsolete and quarantined raw materials and finished products
15. Assist in maintaining the Quality, Environmental and Technical systems
16. Managing the appropriate document control so that quality records are controlled, maintained and easily retrieved
17. Ensuring that laboratory equipment is calibrated in accordance with appropriate standards so that the accuracy of test results is guaranteed
18. Ensuring that the NATA Accreditation is maintained and adhered to
19. Conduct internal audits and action items as required
20. Support Environmental initiatives
21. Maintain Work Instructions for all Laboratory processes
22. Testing samples relating to customer complaints and reporting test results
23. Provide advice to the warehouse and production teams on technical queries to ensure that the end customers best interests are met
24. Ensure procedures for new product introductions and formulation changes are followed
25. Update and modify existing documentation in line with company requirements
26. Develop new skills during busy transition period and special projects capital modifications
Essential Criteria:
27. 0-3 Years' Experience (or more if you have)
28. Experience in a manufacturing control laboratory
29. Sound working knowledge of general laboratory practices and procedures
30. A good understanding of scientific principles and an ability to apply these to the work environment
31. Good knowledge of computers and competent mathematical skills
32. Experience with quality records and Standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 17025)
33. Formal tertiary qualifications - Chemistry Degree ideally
