The Opportunity
Following significant growth, with particular focus on Mission Critical / Data Centres, we have an opportunity for a Senior Hydraulic Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) team, based in Sydney or Melbourne.
This role is suited to an experienced hydraulic engineer ready to take the next step beyond a purely technical position. You will act as a technical authority on projects, work independently with confidence, as well as playing an active role in supporting and developing junior engineers, while partnering closely with project leaders and clients.
As an experienced engineer, you will take ownership of the hydraulic discipline on complex projects, contributing to both technical excellence and successful project delivery. You will be trusted to make informed engineering decisions, manage competing priorities, and represent the business through strong client and stakeholder engagement.
In the role of Senior Hydraulic Engineer, we'll count on you to:
* Lead the planning, design and delivery of hydraulic building services systems across a range of complex projects, including Mission Critical facilities.
* Take responsibility for the hydraulic scope of work, managing quality, programme, budget and resources.
* Complete detailed hydraulic engineering designs using design software, engineering principles and the relevant Australian Codes and Standards.
* Act as a technical reference point for hydraulic engineering matters, providing guidance on complex design challenges.
* Independently evaluate, select and apply standard and advanced engineering techniques to resolve a broad range of hydraulic issues.
* Prepare, review and approve technical reports, drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with Australian Codes, Standards and best practice.
* Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams, clients, contractors and external consultants.
* Attend and lead project and design meetings as required.
* Support Project Leaders and Directors in delivering successful outcomes across multiple projects.
* Mentor and support junior hydraulic engineers, contributing to capability development within the team.
* Implement and maintain QA systems, design records and digital delivery requirements.
* Contribute to the application of ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001 systems across projects.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to repeat business and long-term partnerships.
* Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Building Services or Hydraulic Engineering (or equivalent)
* Professional Engineer (PE) license
* Typically, 8-10+ years' relevant industry experience.
* Strong technical knowledge of hydraulic engineering principles, Australian codes and standards.
* Mission Critical Design / Data Centre Design Experience will be highly advantageous
* High proficiency in Revit, CAD and Bluebeam, with strong digital delivery capability.
* Proven ability to work independently, manage your own workload and take accountability for outcomes.
