Do you have a passion for marine life and a curiosity for what thrives beneath the surface? Are you ready to trade your desk and spend your days surrounded by vibrant fish and dynamic aquatic environments?

We’re looking for a career-driven, enthusiastic, hands-on Aquarist on casual basis with fixed hours to join our team – someone who thrives in a fast-paced, science-driven environment where no two days are ever the same.

About Cairns Marine:

At Cairns Marine, we specialize in providing marine life for aquarium display including but not limited to marine fishes, corals, and invertebrates. As a collector and wholesale supplier, we serve both domestic retail outlets and international distributors. Our reach extends to public aquariums across the globe, as well as local home hobbyists.

What You’ll Do:

As an Aquarist, you’ll be an integral part of our animal care team, responsible for the daily husbandry of a wide variety of marine species. You’ll work closely with our life support systems and play a key role in the health and wellbeing of the animals under your care.

* Hands-On Husbandry: Feed, monitor, and observe marine animals, ensuring their physical and behavioural needs are met.
* Health & Treatment: Administer treatments, assist with medical procedures, and keep detailed health records.
* Exhibit Maintenance: Keep tanks clean, visually appealing, and biologically balanced for both animals and visitors.
* Daily Organization: Plan, prioritize, and log your tasks with precision, collaborating with curators, veterinarians, and fellow aquarists.
* Life Support: Maintain mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration systems.

Who You Are:

✔Passionate about marine biology, aquatic ecosystems, and animal care

✔Comfortable working in and around water (including getting into the tanks)

✔ Skilled at multitasking and maintaining detailed records

✔Mechanically inclined and comfortable troubleshooting pumps, filters, etc.

✔Physically fit

✔Willing to work weekends

✔A great teammate who thrives in a collaborative environment

Why You’ll Love It Here:

* Incredible Environment: Work closely with rare and beautiful species in aquatic habitats.
* Real Impact: Play a key role in conservation, education, and inspiring the next generation of ocean stewards.
* Growth Opportunities: Gain hands-on experience in advanced husbandry techniques, and veterinary care.
* Every Day Is Different: From births and new arrivals to animal training and emergency interventions—this is a career that’s as dynamic as the ocean itself.
* Career growth (Cairns Marine prefers internal promotion)
* Penalty rates (Weekends, public holidays and night shifts)

Qualifications:

* Preferred degree in Marine Biology, Zoology, Aquaculture, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
* Previous experience in aquatic animal husbandry preferred
* Knowledge of water chemistry and life support systems highly desirable

If you're ready to turn your love of marine life into a rewarding, purpose-driven career, we want to hear from you. Apply today via indeed or E-mail and help us protect, preserve, and share the wonders of the aquatic world.
