Level 5 Café Supervisor (Part-Time, 32–38 hrs)

Merak GF is a busy, accredited 100% gluten-free café with a strong local following and growing wholesale arm.
We are looking for an experienced Level 5 Supervisor to lead our front-of-house team, support the owner, and help us keep service calm, efficient and welcoming.
This is a hands-on, on-the-floor role – perfect for a working supervisor who still loves making coffee, running a section and coaching a team.
Pay & Conditions
* Classification: Restaurant Industry Award – Level 5 Food & Beverage Supervisor (Part-Time)
* Base rate: $29.88 per hour (Mon–Fri)
* Saturday penalty rates: up to approx. $37.35 per hour, if Saturday work is required
* Plus superannuation and all Award entitlements
* Hours: approx. 32–38 hours per week, primarily Tuesday to Friday, including Friday night (early finish).
Key Responsibilities
You will:
* Lead FOH service during busy breakfast and lunch (and occasional dinner) services
* Supervise, train and support FOH staff (including juniors and new starters)
* Allocate roles and sections, manage breaks and keep service flowing smoothly
* Handle day-to-day issues on the floor and escalate serious matters to the owner
* Oversee closing procedures, checklists and presentation standards
* Assist with rostering, covering leave/sick calls and basic admin in Deputy
* Ensure our gluten-free, coeliac-safe standards and customer service expectations are met consistently
* Communicate clearly with kitchen and ownership about any issues, feedback or improvements
About You
You are:
* An experienced hospitality supervisor (or 2IC) with proven FOH leadership in cafés or casual dining
* Comfortable supervising a small team, including younger staff, and giving clear, calm directions
* A person that brings a warm, positive energy that lifts the team and creates a welcoming vibe for guests.
* A strong barista – confident on a commercial machine in busy periods
* Very organised, with good time management and delegation skills
* Strong hands-on experience with café or casual dining food service, including plating, presentation and basic food safety.
* Confident using POS and scheduling systems (experience with Square and Deputy is highly regarded)
* Professional, reliable and steady under pressure – you keep service calm, not chaotic
* Someone who genuinely cares about team culture, fairness and setting people up for success
* An individual who is passionate about creating a safe, welcoming environment for gluten-free and health-conscious customers, and the families, friends and colleagues who dine with them
Qualifications
* Ideally you will have formal hospitality/supervision qualifications (e.g. Cert IV in Hospitality or similar)
* OR significant equivalent supervisory experience in hospitality
* Current RSA is required (or willing to obtain)
