Overview
Mental Health Clinician - Acute Care Team / Statewide Mental Health Telephone Access Line (ACT/SMHTAL) - Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service (ESMHS) – NSW Health
Location: Randwick, Sydney. Employment type: Permanent Part Time. Hours per week: 24. Requisition ID: REQ606776. Applications close date: 28 September 2025.
The role involves telephone triage and community-based assessment and risk management of consumers with mental health concerns. The position is required to work as part of a 24/7 rotating roster.
Responsibilities
Provide telephone triage and assess mental health concerns for the community.
Conduct risk assessments and determine appropriate follow-up or escalation.
Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to support service delivery.
Work across Acute Care Team and SMHTAL as part of a rotating roster (24/7).
Qualifications and Requirements
Social Worker or Occupational Therapist qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award, current full registration with AHPRA and/or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer. Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Psychologist with a four year degree in psychology and registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA).
Demonstrated core competency skills in Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol interventions in the community and experience in providing comprehensive mental health and drug & alcohol assessments.
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to engage with patients/clients to improve service delivery.
Experience working with people with acute mental illness and challenges related to drug and alcohol use.
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and exercise independent professional judgment on routine matters.
Demonstrated computer skills and ability to use health information systems.
Commitment to quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and ongoing clinical learning.
Current unrestricted NSW Driver's Licence.
Work Environment and Benefits
Salary: $36.39 - $57.10 per hour, plus superannuation (depends on role level).

Selection Criteria
Relevant professional qualifications and registrations as listed above; eligibility for membership with professional bodies; and current registration as applicable.
Demonstrated experience in Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol interventions in the community and related assessments.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery.
Experience with acute mental illness and substance use issues; ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and exercise professional judgment.
Computer proficiency and ability to use health information systems.
Commitment to quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and ongoing professional learning.
Current NSW Driver's Licence.
