About the program

The Community Engagement program works alongside the North Richmond community to strengthen connection, inclusion and participation. A key focus of this work is The Welcoming Place: Building a Safer and More Inclusive Community, a Board endorsed initiative that supports NRCH to be a place where everyone feels safe, accepted and respected.


About the role

The Community Development Officer is responsible for delivering The Welcoming Place: Building a Safer and More Inclusive Community, with a primary focus on the North Richmond precinct and NRCH grounds. The role leads and coordinates community led activity that strengthens social cohesion, fosters belonging and builds trust between community members and NRCH.

Working through a strengths based community development approach, the role partners with community members, NRCH teams and external stakeholders to co design, deliver and evaluate initiatives that enhance community wellbeing and pride in place.


Key responsibilities include:

* Leading the delivery of The Welcoming Place initiative in line with program objectives, timelines and available resources

* Using strengths based and asset based approaches to support and build community capacity

* Establishing and coordinating partnerships across community members, NRCH, government, community agencies and the private sector

* Building and maintaining trusting relationships with individuals and groups through strong interpersonal skills and transparency

* Collecting data, evaluating activities and preparing reports on program progress

* Exercising initiative and judgement in a complex community environment

* Contributing flexibly to the Community Engagement team and undertaking other duties as required

About you

You are an experienced community development practitioner who works confidently and autonomously within a complex community setting. You bring strong relationship skills, sound judgement and a commitment to strengths based practice.

You will bring:

* Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Youth Development, Community Engagement or a related discipline, and or significant relevant experience

* Demonstrated experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and people experiencing vulnerability or marginalisation

* Strong practical knowledge of strengths based and asset based community development frameworks

* Proven experience delivering and coordinating community led programs that achieve meaningful outcomes

* Well developed relationship building, facilitation and communication skills

* Project management and evaluation skills, including data collection and reporting

* Strong computer literacy and the ability to work effectively and independently in a complex environment
