About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Commercial Analyst to join our dynamic team. This role is a fixed term 12 month contract and is based in our Newcastle office.
Accountable for oversight of the revenue stream at Whitehaven Coal, with a strong focus on the development and coordination of the annual revenue budget and ongoing monthly revenue forecasting. The role supports forward-looking revenue planning through analysis of sales volumes, pricing assumptions, shipment timing, and market conditions, providing insight to senior management and the Board to support decision-making.
The position is responsible for forecasting and monitoring demurrage and other voyage-related revenue impacts, ensuring these are appropriately reflected in revenue outlooks. The role also supports a robust control environment across sales operations by maintaining disciplined forecasting processes, assumptions governance, and alignment between marketing, commercial and finance teams.
What You'll Do
* Develop annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and monitor the performance against those budgets and forecasts
* Assist with the completion of sales forecasts based on market trends, customer demand, and production capacity.
* Collaborate with sales and operations teams to ensure alignment between sales targets and operational capabilities.
* Prepare and present regular sales performance reports to management, highlighting key metrics and trends.
* Assist in reporting of value generation achieved via purchase and blending of third-party coals
* Conduct ad-hoc analysis and special projects as requested by senior management, providing timely and accurate insights to support strategic initiatives
* Assist with preparation of ELT, Board and Leadership Team reports
What You'll Bring
* Proven experience in commercial analysis, preferably within the coal industry or related sectors.
* Proficiency in financial modelling, forecasting, and budgeting.
* Degree qualified in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Law
* Experience dealing with multiple stakeholder inputs both internal and external
* The ability to build and maintain strong and trusted relationships across all levels of the business
* Experience and understanding of international and domestic coal markets (desirable)
* Experience in the coal industry across coal mining, coal processing and logistics chain (Desirable)
