About The Role
As a Consultant Physician in General & Acute Care Medicine at Albany Health Campus, you will be part of a team leading the delivery of highest‐quality inpatient and outpatient specialist services to the Great Southern region. Your role will include, at different times on a 'block' roster, managing an inpatient team, managing a Home Hospital team of patients being managed in their homes, General Medicine outpatient clinics which includes referrals from hospital services and the community, supervising a Consultation‐liaison service that includes peri‐operative advice, and General Medicine rapid access outpatient clinics to facilitate hospital avoidance (HomeSafe). The role requires strong leadership in a large team to drive clinical quality and safety improvements, supervise, mentor and educate junior medical staff and support an innovative culture as we launch new programmes to deliver the right care in the right place at the right time. You will be supervising a mix of registrars in Basic Physician Training, Advanced Physician Training, Intensive Care Medicine and Rural Generalist Medicine as well as RMOs and Interns, who will become our future workforce as part of our 'grow your own' strategy.
In this dynamic role you will need to adapt to different modes of service delivery, often with multiple competing demands. Rostered hours are generally 'blocked' together over a fortnight to provide service continuity (i.e. 0.5 FTE may be rostered as one week on, one week off). There is on‐call and rostered overtime. On‐call duties are shared among a large team with Physicians generally supporting registrars who are first on‐call for new presentations and deteriorating patients. There is support from intensivists who manage a six‐bed HDU 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Weekends are generally shared among consultants approximately one in four weekends rostered on. The role is a terrific general and acute care medicine role where you will be working in collaboration with a highly skilled team to the top of your scope of practice.
