This role focuses on automation systems, control architecture, and instrumentation engineering, with a hands-on approach to execution and commissioning.About The RoleAs an Electrical Project Engineer specialising in Automation and Controls, you will be responsible for the development, coordination, and delivery of automation and control systems within defined project work packages.
You will support the Engineering Manager and Area Leads to ensure that design, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities align with project scope, standards, and timelines.This is a energetic, technically challenging role ideal for an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems in real industrial environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver end-to-end engineering for control systems, including design, specification, functional safety, and integrationDevelop and review control philosophies, logic diagrams, instrumentation schedules, and system architecturePrepare and evaluate automation-related procurement packages and vendor documentationCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive delivery across engineering streamsProvide on-site technical support during installation, loop checking, and commissioningParticipate in HAZOP, SIL, and control system validation workshopsSupport FATs/SATs and ensure systems meet compliance, safety, and performance targetsMaintain documentation and ensure traceability of logic changes and commissioning outcomesAssist with PLC and SCADA configuration and troubleshooting as requiredQualifications And ExperienceTertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechatronics or Control Systems Engineering5+ years' experience in automation and instrumentation engineering within heavy industry or major capital projectsStrong technical background in PLC, SCADA, and instrumentation systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider preferred)Experience in commissioning industrial automation systems, including burner management and interlocksFamiliarity with Australian electrical and safety standards and IEC 61511Exposure to control system integration in complex or continuous process plantsExcellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skillsWhat We OfferThe opportunity to work on a nationally significant major capital programA high-performing, supportive team cultureAccess to professional development and future project opportunitiesCompetitive remuneration and long-term career prospectsApply NowIf you're ready to make a meaningful impact on a technically complex industrial project, we'd love to hear from you.
