In this role, you will focus your efforts on the decarbonisation of the steel industry, with a strong emphasis on Japan and East Asian economies.
Your research will analyse current and future Australia-Japan value chains in iron and steelmaking.
You'll also contribute to broader projects related to heavy industry emissions, working collaboratively across teams to produce policy-relevant insights.

The Opportunity

We are seeking Research Fellow to participate in research on iron and steel decarbonisation between Australia and its major trading partners, centred on Japan, including some project management. The position is located within the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University. The position works closely with the Centre for Climate and Energy Policy (CCEP) within the Crawford School and other relevant researchers at the Australian National University. In this role you will work within a team to help develop models of green iron and steel markets or other models, help develop policy scenarios for use in analysis, contribute to the development of a stakeholder survey, and assist in the organisation and participation in externally-focused forums.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have a qualification in economics, public policy, engineering, or a related field. Experience in optimisation modelling, expertise in industrial decarbonisation and/or East Asia will be highly regarded, as will proficiency in Python, Julia, or RStats, and experience in industry engagement. To excel in this role, you will be a self-starter who has demonstrated experience in project management and working in a team setting, with the technical capabilities to contribute to modelling green iron and steel supply chains between Australia and its major trading partners, centred on Japan.
