Overview
Ashurst is seeking a Technology, Data & Communications Senior Associate (Sydney) to join our Digital Economy Transactions Team. This role focuses on the full range of technology, data and digital infrastructure matters, working closely with Partners nationally and with access to international matters within the broader team.
Responsibilities
* Advise on the full spectrum of technology matters including software and systems, internet issues, technology licensing, data, cyber, privacy, cloud computing, digital transformation, fintech, commercial contracts, procurements, complex projects and outsourcings, telecommunications, regulatory, and technology mergers, acquisitions and disposals.
* Collaborate with national and international colleagues on matters and contribute to transaction work from due diligence through negotiating and settlements.
* Support clients with regulatory compliance and risk management related to technology and digital initiatives.
* Prepare and review contracts, provide practical commercial advice, and negotiate favorable terms for clients.
* Contribute to business development and client relationships within the technology and digital arena.
Recent Examples
* ANZ Bank: Assisted on the acquisition of 100% of Suncorp Bank, including due diligence and the Transitional Services Agreement.
* Confidential Clients: Advised on major cybersecurity incidents and potential liability issues.
* Confidential Bank: Advised an APRA-regulated entity on amendments to contracts for compliance with DORA, MAS and CPS 230 as part of a global team.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
* A Bachelor of Laws with 7+ years post-qualification experience in technology, cyber security and privacy practice
* Experience with NSW Procure IT Framework, Security of Critical Infrastructure Act and APRA CPS 230 regulatory advice is highly advantageous
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* A commercial approach with the ability to negotiate contracts
* Strong attention to detail and well-developed analytical skills
* A proactive, positive and energetic approach with a commitment to providing excellent service and building client relationships
