The Mirnukaru Project is seeking to develop a place-based, culturally safe alternative model of education and early years support for disengaged young Aboriginal people in Hedland. Guided by Elders and informed by research, over the next 12 months the project team will develop a model and prepare a business case to support the implementation of the Mirnukaru model.
We're seeking a Project Officer to help support this important work.
Note this position is based at Julyardi's South Hedland Office.
Primary Purpose of the Role
Support project delivery through coordination, community engagement, research and administration. Working closely with Elders, families, schools and partner organisations, you'll help ensure the project is culturally grounded, well‐organised and responsive to community priorities.
Key Accountabilities
* Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Elders, families, Aboriginal organisations, schools and service partners.
* Support co‐design processes, ensuring community voices shape decisions and outputs.
* Support day‐to‐day project operations, timelines and deliverables.
* Assist with planning, logistics and coordination of community sessions, elder engagement, workshops and on Country activities.
* Assist with data collection, literature reviews, interviews, and documentation of community knowledge.
* Prepare meeting papers, minutes, correspondence and progress reports.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
* Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks.
* Strong English communication skills, verbal and written.
* Ability to work independently.
* Ability to create and maintain strong relationships with community partners.
* Ability to consult with Elders and Aboriginal community members in a culturally appropriate manner.
Essential Pre-Employment Qualifications
* Working with Children Check (current) or the ability to obtain on offer of employment.
* National Police Check (not less than six months old).
* Unrestricted C Class driver's licence.
* Pre‐employment medical – drug and alcohol testing.
* Experience in early childhood, education, youth or community development.
* Knowledge of Pilbara communities, language and culture.
* Experience with co‐design or participatory approaches.
