Exciting opportunity for a Principal Cost Analyst to join the Department of Health

The Team:

The Costing Accounting team forms part of the statewide Finance and Business Support function and

* Provides services and advice to business areas throughout the Department of Health working with both operational and non-operational areas to drive the efficient and effective use of resources across the Agency;
* Has a primary focus on financial modelling and project work providing advice on business cases, contracts and agreements, including negotiations in relation to Enterprise Bargaining Agreements, compensable services and the National Health Reform Agreement;
* Provides analysis of financial issues to support the Executive in making informed decisions; and
* Is a fast paced environment with highly varied tasks and minimal repetition.

The Role:

The Principal Cost Analyst provides specialist consultative advice to the Manager - Cost Accounting by:

* Undertaking cost accounting analysis to support the Agency in identifying cost saving opportunities to support financial sustainability; and
* Streamlining and standardising business, financial, accounting and operating processes to support a best practice environment.

You will need:

Knowledge of Government accounting/budgeting requirements as demonstrated by a degree in Accounting or Commerce, other relevant tertiary qualifications with emphasis on financial accounting and management, or training and relevant work experience deemed equivalent by the selection panel.

Demonstrated professional experience in financial, management and cost accounting including knowledge of the following:

* Activity based costing/activity based management
* Accrual based output budgeting in a complex organisation
* Management reporting, strategic analysis and key performance reporting
* Budgeting and forecast modelling
* Cost management and attribution modelling
* Australian accounting standards
Demonstrated understanding of business planning, strategic cost management and financial risk management, and the ability to provide effective advice on these and other financial matters to senior management.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker positions, working 76hours per fortnight, commencing September 2025.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary:$128,102 to $134,832 per annum(Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

* Salary range is in accordance with thePublic Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
