Job Description:
A rare opportunity exists to drive operational and strategic excellence in the steelmaking coal industry. Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.
In Australia, Anglo American operates five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, with additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain geotechnical oversight of underground operations and audit compliance with corporate standards and approved support designs.
* Design ground support and monitoring systems to support safe and productive mine operations.
* Conduct regular underground inspections to audit strata conditions and confirm the effectiveness of strata support systems installed to approved support designs.
* Provide strategic advice to the Technical Services and Mining Operations departments on how to maximise the value of the operation.
* Manage the Strata Defect System and ensure compliance with the Geotechnical Operational Management System.
* Advise mining departments with recommendations on strata control issues regarding mine design, planning and day-to-day operations.
* Understand and comply with all legislative and company safety, health, environment, cost and production objectives, guidelines, procedures, and requirements relevant to the professional management of ground conditions.
Requirements
* Tertiary degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a similar discipline.
* Proven underground coal experience within a Geotechnical Engineering role.
* Experience with computer aided mine design programs, geotechnical software, and other business software.
* Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) would be highly advantageous or willingness to obtain recognition.
* Ability to understand functionality of business systems and provide relevant data for business purposes.
