Business Analyst – Financial Management | Government Contract
We’re currently recruiting for a contract Business Analyst to join a high-profile transformation program within a large Queensland Government department.
This role focuses on improving financial management practices across a major infrastructure division, helping to uplift budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning capability.
You’ll be embedded in a newly formed team focused on driving smarter processes and better data insights, with a key project centred on modernising financial frameworks and enabling strategic investment decisions.
Role / Responsibilities
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused BA role that will see you:
* Analyse and uplift financial processes including budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and cost controls
* Map, model, and improve finance-related business processes (e.g. procure-to-pay, order-to-cash)
* Facilitate workshops and capture functional and non-functional business requirements
* Provide insights using financial and operational data to inform funding and investment models
* Support audit readiness, change enablement, and business transition activities
* Maintain process maps, traceability matrices, and documentation aligned to best practice
* Collaborate with a broad range of internal stakeholders to support financial decision-making
Skills Required
* 5+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst, ideally within complex government or infrastructure programs
* A solid grounding in financial management, with 3+ years' experience in budgeting, forecasting, and/or cost modelling
* Strong understanding of process improvement and business process mapping (BPMN, Visio)
* Proven capability in Agile and Waterfall environments
* Confidence engaging with stakeholders and facilitating workshops across business and technical teams
* Clear communication and documentation skills – you’ll need to translate complex ideas into structured, accessible outputs
* Experience working across ambiguous and maturing environments
