Primary objective
Provide a high-quality information, education, and interpretive service to park visitors. Assist in the implementation of
holistic environmental, and conservation-based visitor experiences to demonstrate a new level of environmental awareness,
and appreciation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Greet and converse with visitors, providing a consistently high level of customer service and reliability without
supervision.
2. Develop, present, and monitor nature and culture-based presentations, tours and activities to Park visitors, and
educational activities to school groups, in line with the Park’s interpretive program.
3. Provide direction and assist visitors to ensure their visit is safe and enjoyable.
4. Assist with park amenity and maintenance as directed.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individual visitors and groups to provide appropriate information
about the culture, flora, fauna and habitats of Central Australia.
2. Ability to work effectively as part of a team; maintaining a positive, enthusiastic approach under times of pressure, such
as high visitation, attitude and the ability to adapt and work under pressure.
3. Ability to carry out basic research and obtain information with regard to the flora, fauna and habitats of Central Australia
and develop into interpretative material for the general public.
4. Ability to undertake a range of tasks related to the role and the work of the Visitor Services unit as directed by the
Supervisor.
5. Ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays on a roster system at the Alice Springs Desert Park.
6. Current or ability to obtain ‘C’ class NT Driver’s Licence, Senior First Aid Certificate and Working with Children (Ochre
Card).
7. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Understanding and knowledge of tourism operations as they pertain to a site such as the Alice Springs Desert Park.
Further information
1. This position involves irregular rostered shifts, with no guaranteed weekly hours.
2. Assistance in relocation will not be offered for applicants.
3. This position involves shift work over a seven-day roster working in extreme environmental conditions of Central
Australia.
