Motor Technical Assessor – Quality, Standards and Events

Role Overview

The Motor Assessor Quality, Standards and Events role is primarily responsible for reviewing the accuracy and quality of assessments conducted by Motor Assessors and Motor Body Repairers.

Brief Description

The Motor Assessor Quality, Standards and Events role is primarily responsible for reviewing the accuracy and quality of assessments conducted by Motor Assessors and Motor Body Repairers. This involves reviewing assessments, recording results, providing feedback for improvement, and identifying opportunities for enhancing processes and compliance on motor vehicle assessments. The role necessitates balancing customer satisfaction with business needs, and includes post-authorisation reviews of assessments and vehicle repairs to optimise a high quality assessment overview. The role also includes contributions to the ongoing development and improvement of the Assessing Quality Review framework. Furthermore, during catastrophic events the position requires travel to affected areas to assess damage and determine appropriate repair strategies in accordance with Auto & General Assessing methodology.

Key Responsibilities

- Accurately assess vehicle damage to determine correct and cost effective assessment outcomes.
- Undertake vehicle assessments in line with underwriting terms & conditions & claims protocols.
- Manage rectifications in accordance with the Industry Code of Conduct & engage PSM in the appropriate recovery of costs.
- Provide excellent service to our customers both on the phone and in person.
- Weather Event Management: Execution of event controls for weather-related incidents, ensuring timely and effective response and assessment.
- External Partner Management: Oversee the operational performance of JHB and Tapanda, ensuring adherence to service level agreements, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
- Operational Governance: Maintain a high focus on relationship and brand execution, fostering strong partnerships with external partners.
- Specialist Assessing Functions: Lead and manage specialist assessing functions across the business unit, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services.
- Contingency Operations: Develop and implement contingency plans in collaboration with the Assessing Specialist Manager and other key business departments to ensure business continuity during unforeseen events.

Relationship Management

- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, industry partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment within the team and with other departments, ensuring effective communication and information sharing.

Strategic Focus

- Commercial Acumen: Drive profitability by promoting growth and strategic investment in skills and capabilities.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of auditing strategies, systems, and processes to ensure quality assurance and compliance.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to continuously improve processes, systems, and technology to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

People Management

- Team Development: Develop and mentor team members, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous learning.
- Proficient in communication delivery/feedback & negotiation skills.

Compliance & Risk Management

- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant legislative, regulatory, and compliance requirements within the FSR environment.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks, ensuring a safe and compliant working environment.

What Experience You’ll Bring

- Trade qualification in Panelbeating, Spray Painting, Mechanic, or CERT IV Motor Vehicle Loss Assessing.
- Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, and Google platforms.
- CERT IV in Training & Assessment (preferred but not essential).
- Exceptional understanding of the MVIRICC.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer and estimating/quoting package literate (AUDANET highly regarded).
- Strong planning and organisational ability and to work independently.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong relationship building/network and collaboration skills.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Assessing.
- Strong commercial acumen and proven capability in developing and executing strategic programs of work.
- Exceptional time management and organisational skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills, effective with both customers and industry professionals when negotiating best business outcomes.
- Strong, accurate written communication skills, including report writing.
- Strong influencing skills both within the organisation and with market and industry bodies.
- Demonstrated experience in building effective business relationships with multiple stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of Motor Assessing systems, control models, and end-to-end claims management.
- Experience with Solera Assessing (preferred but not essential).
- Valid Drivers Licence.
