We have NATA accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) coal laboratories servicing all major coal ports in Australia and have significant involvement with the superintending of coal exported overseas, quality control at mine sites / power plants and borecore evaluation.
Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Coal Technician to join our team on a casual basis in Paget, QLD. In this hands-on role, you’ll be key to delivering accurate and timely preparation and analysis of coal and related samples, working to recognised international standards and contributing to high-quality results for our clients
Your key responsibilities in this role will include but are not limited to:
* Follow correct procedures for sampling, recording, preparation, analysis, storage, and reporting.
* Ensure accuracy, precision, and traceability of samples with timely completion of tasks.
* Assist with preventative maintenance of preparation equipment and maintain a safety-aware environment.
* Use basic CCLAS for sample booking and analysis.
* Communicate effectively with previous and following shifts.
* Stop using any equipment that poses a safety risk or could affect results, and report to the Supervisor.
* Perform routine and project sampling, preparation, and analysis.
* Plan shift workflow and coordinate sample pick-ups and analysis.
* Be available for shift work with reasonable notice.
* Work across testing, sampling, and analytical areas as required.
* Maintain a clean, safe work environment, including participating in site housekeeping and occasional special clean-ups.
Qualifications
SGS is looking for candidates who come from a fast-paced background. The successful candidate will possess the following:
* Coal sampling, preparation and testing experience preferred, but not essential
* Good computer skills, Excel proficiency beneficial and previous experience with data management programs (highly regarded)
* Previous experience in general mineral laboratory environment preferred, but not essential
* Ability to work on rotating shifts
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet tight deadlines
