The Role
Covetrus is a global animal health technology and services company dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine. We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our team on a 12‐month parental leave contract. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will lead a small team and be responsible for core accounting activities, including managing month‐end processes, maintaining balance‐sheet integrity, and identifying process‐improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities
* Lead and deliver a tight month‐end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines.
* Provide people leadership and mentoring to a small team of Assistant Accountants.
* Oversee key complex month‐end profit and loss accounts, including rebates, ensuring accruals are taken up and variance‐analysis commentary is completed.
* Prepare payroll journals and authorize the release of wages.
* Act as key signatory in the approval and release of AP payments.
* Complete monthly/quarterly US reporting and submissions as required.
* Complete and review monthly balance‐sheet reconciliations.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Commerce, coupled with CA/CPA qualifications.
* At least five years of experience within a large, commercial accounting environment.
* Experience with rebate programs and payroll accounting is advantageous.
* Ability to work accurately under pressure, especially during compressed month‐end cycles.
* Strong technical accounting capability, with confidence interpreting standards and applying judgment in a commercial environment.
* People‐leadership experience, mentoring and developing junior Finance and Accounting staff.
* Advanced skills in MS Excel.
* Well‐developed interpersonal skills, able to adapt communication for different internal stakeholders.
* Strong time‐management skills and ability to prioritize work in an agile way.
