About the Mint

The Royal Australian Mint is a small government agency working within the Commonwealth Government Portfolio of the Treasury. The Mint is a non‐corporate Commonwealth Entity and is listed under the Public Governance Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act). The Mint is also covered by the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) (PS Act).

The Royal Australian Mint makes coins and other minted products to serve the needs of the Australian economy, foreign countries, investors and collectors. We are stewards of a thriving national institution that showcases our nation's stories through the National Coin Collection, and a world‐class museum and gallery experience.

The Royal Australian Mint creates public value through a range of coining and minting‐related activities. We play a key role in sharing the stories of Australia by recognising significant anniversaries, events, organisations and cultural perspectives through coins.

About the Role

The Operations Branch is the manufacturing arm of the Mint. It is an operationally focused, multi‐disciplinary team, responsible for the manufacture of both Australian and foreign circulating coins, collectable coins, other minted products and tooling to support those production requirements.

The branch covers a range of functions to meet the demands of numismatic production and coin manufacture, including engineering, die preparation, blank preparation, electro‐plating and chemical processing, tooling and machining services, planning and logistics, and packing.

In addition to meeting production targets, the branch has a strong focus on safety, continuous improvement, and quality. The Operations branch is currently embarking on a large program of uplift initiatives, including significant capital upgrades, providing a great opportunity for enthusiastic leaders to contribute to meaningful change and development.

The Duties
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Mint's manufacturing operations, ensuring the safe, secure, and efficient production of circulating and numismatic coins.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the design, development, and commercialisation of innovative numismatic and investment products, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and government priorities.
  • Oversee engineering, production, supply chain, and asset management and maintenance functions to ensure alignment with organisational priorities and whole‐of‐enterprise objectives.
  • Lead workforce planning, capability development, and cultural initiatives to build a skilled, resilient, and safety‐conscious workforce.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and risk management frameworks, safeguarding the Mint's operations in a high‐risk environment.
  • Deliver on domestic and international contractual obligations, ensuring operational excellence supports Australia's reputation and strengthens commercial opportunities.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement to enhance productivity, efficiency, sustainability, and value‐for‐money outcomes.
  • Deliver a program of capital investment, including managing large projects.
  • Provide authoritative advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Board, and Government on operational matters, risks, and strategic opportunities.
  • Represent the Mint with integrity and professionalism in dealings with stakeholders, including government, regulators, industry, and customers.
