Overview
Security Guard - Montana Historical Society
The Montana Historical Society is seeking a Security Guard to protect the museum's artifacts and the building, provide information to visitors, and support staff as needed. The position reports to the Facilities and Security Manager and requires a compassionate, motivated, energetic, team-oriented attitude and a commitment to protecting priceless artifacts and works of art.
Responsibilities
* Safeguard the museum's artifacts and display areas.
* Provide accurate information to visitors about the MTHS facility in a professional and courteous manner, in person and on the phone.
* Enforce safety guidelines to protect the art, building, staff, and visitors.
* Assist MTHS staff on occasions affecting the museum's collection or facility, under the direction of the Facilities and Security Manager.
* Maintain a team-oriented approach when working with staff and visitors.
* Conduct physical inspections of grounds and buildings before opening hours.
* Activate and monitor alarm systems.
* Investigate accidents and document safety hazards.
* Use two-way radios with proper etiquette.
* Assist with setup/takedown of equipment for museum functions, events, and programs; assist with mailings, front desk duties, deliveries, and moving heavy objects as needed.
Qualifications
* Ability to act calmly and authoritatively in emergency situations and to interact well with museum guests.
* Ability to observe and report irregularities and take appropriate action in emergencies.
* Ability to disseminate information in a courteous manner and to write routine reports and correspondence.
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of proper use of emergency, communications, and security equipment.
* Familiarity with CPR/AED/First Aid (certifications provided by MTHS).
* Current, valid driver's license; basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements
* Ability to climb, crouch, push/pull, reach, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions; good hearing and vision for safety and communication.
* Must be able to move and stand for several hours at a time.
Education and Experience
* High-school diploma.
* One year of security-related experience.
* Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted.
