General Practitioner Role
Culturally safe GP services are provided within a holistic and comprehensive culturally appropriate primary health model-of-care to achieve improved health outcomes for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The General Practitioner (GP) provides acute illness or injury, prevention, early detection, chronic disease management, health promotion, support for social-emotional wellbeing by recognising and understanding the principles of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2021–2031 and National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Mental Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing 2017-2023.
About Cairns
Cairns is a city in tropical Far North Queensland considered the gateway to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. It has a Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park telling the stories of indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with music and dance. The city has a swimming lagoon on its Esplanade lined with bars and restaurants. Northwest of the city, Daintree National Park spans mountainous rainforest, gorges and beaches.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
* Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM or a minimum of five years of experience in General Practice
* Good communication skills, especially in a cross-cultural environment
* Ability to work well under pressure and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary primary health care team
* Willingness and ability to accommodate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander values and traditions in clinical practice
