Expand your professional expertise as a cardiologist under the specialist supervision of Dr Marcus Ilton as part of a registrar training program starting in February 2026.
Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital is the principle tertiary hospital within the region and provides a broad range of referral services in all specialist areas to Darwin, the Top End of the NT, Western Australia and South-East Asia.
Currently, the Royal Darwin Hospital is inviting Senior and Trainee Registrars to join the Cardiology team for 12-month placement covering the period 2 February 2026 - 31 January 2027. Applications will be offered at the Senior and Trainee level dependent upon experience.
As a Cardiologist Registrar, you will provide high-quality medical care to patients, admitted and non-admitted, within the Top End Services, which includes Royal Darwin, Palmerston and Katherine District Hospitals.
Your key duties will involve undertaking initial assessments of patients, accurately recording patient's medical records, providing advice to consultants on radiology, pathology and diagnostics, and ensuring discharge summaries are completed within a timely fashion. You will be required to communicate effectively with medical staff in relation to diagnostic requests, management plans and consultations to ensure appropriate action has been taken and relevant clinical material is provided as part of the handover. Participation in postgraduate education, Medical Registrar Training and Grand Rounds is essential. In addition, you will have the opportunity to conduct research, peer review practices, professional development, and provide supervision to junior medical and clinical staff.
To be selected you require eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia, successfully completed Royal Australasian College of Physicians written and clinical exams and demonstrate clinical knowledge in assessment and management of patients and a commitment to providing high quality medical care.
