Mars Recruitment is partnering with a leading, ASX-listed resources organisation to appoint a Senior System Engineer. This is a key role supporting enterprise-wide IT infrastructure across corporate and operational environments, including remote sites across Western Australia.
The Opportunity
As a Senior System Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of core IT systems including servers, cloud platforms, SaaS applications, and network infrastructure. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining high system availability, strengthening cyber security posture, and delivering infrastructure projects across multi-site environments. Depending on location, the role can be Perth-based with company-wide responsibility, or site-based supporting regional operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and support enterprise IT infrastructure including servers, hosting environments, and SaaS platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365)
* Administer and maintain Windows Server environments and core services including Active Directory, Exchange, Entra ID, Teams, Intune, SQL and Veeam
* Support and maintain hybrid cloud environments (Azure, Azure Stack, AWS, VMware)
* Monitor and maintain backup and disaster recovery systems, including annual DR testing
* Provide Level 2/3 technical support and escalation for complex incidents
* Oversee IT Service Desk queue and ensure timely resolution of support requests
* Lead and deliver infrastructure projects (hardware refreshes, network extensions, system upgrades)
* Manage IT vendors, contractors, procurement, and associated budgets
* Maintain hardware/software asset registers and monitoring dashboards
* Ensure compliance with cyber security standards and incident management procedures
* Mentor junior IT team members and provide technical guidance
* Participate in an on-call roster for critical support issues
About You
* Degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
* Microsoft and/or VMware certifications (or equivalent experience)
* ITIL certification or experience working within an ITIL framework (desirable)
* Minimum 5+ years' experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure
* Experience working in complex, multi-site environments (resources, industrial, utilities or similar highly regarded)
* Strong experience across:
o Windows Server infrastructure
o Microsoft 365 ecosystem
o Azure / AWS cloud platforms
o VMware virtualization
o Backup & disaster recovery solutions
o Networking fundamentals (Cisco switching, VPN, wireless, fibre - desirable)
* Strong troubleshooting capability and ability to work in high-pressure environments
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and customer service skills
* Demonstrated ability to lead small-to-large IT projects
