Position details

Part Time (0.5 FTE). Base Salary $156,103 (Pro rata) + 17% superannuation.

About the opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer (Education Focused) within the Sydney Medical School, specialising in metabolic health and medicine. This is an education-focused academic role that combines high-quality teaching with scholarly activity to inform and enhance educational practice.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in the design, delivery and evaluation of postgraduate coursework in metabolic health contributing to programs such as the Master of Medicine/Science in Medicine (Metabolic Health) and other emerging educational offerings, including short courses and micro-credentials.

This role is primarily teaching-focused, with responsibility for coordinating units of study and delivering engaging, evidence-based learning experiences. The appointee will demonstrate leadership in curriculum innovation, educational design, and pedagogy, and will contribute to advancing excellence in teaching and learning within the school.

The position includes a majority allocation to teaching and teaching-related activities (~70%), supported by contributions to scholarship of teaching and learning (~20%) and service, leadership and engagement activities (~10%).

The appointee will collaborate closely with the Program Director and broader academic team, contribute to mentoring colleagues, and support a positive, inclusive and high-performing teaching environment.

Key responsibilities

* undertake a leadership role in educational innovation, curriculum design and review, contributing to outstanding educational delivery and outcomes
* engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University's expectations and standards for education
* undertake independent teaching in discipline, contributing to educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes contributing to postgraduate metabolic health teaching within the Sydney Medical School
* contribute to the design and delivery of inter-disciplinary clinically orientated learning units and content
* carry out administrative tasks in an educational leadership capacity
* coordinate activities of academic staff and provide training and mentorship to less experienced academic staff
* contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
* engage beyond the University to develop a profile through conferences, seminars and outreach activities
* undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required

About you

* doctorate or PhD in a relevant field
* an accredited fellow of Royal Australasian College of Physicians in specialty of Endocrinology
* recognised as an Advance Higher Education Fellow or equivalent
* demonstrated experience in successfully developing and implementing innovative teaching, with capacity to reflect on their pedagogy and students' outcomes; has an emerging national reputation for their work as an educator
* demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
* experience in people leadership within the higher education sector
* experience in supervising or mentoring others
* effective written and verbal communication skills
* well-developed capabilities in designing, delivering, managing, and curating digital learning experiences, providing online access to teaching materials and learning activities using a university LMS, and can present a portfolio of their work in this area for more than one unit of study, or in one or more large units of study
