**The Role**
The role is to provide tidal and geodetic support to other sections within the Australian Hydrographic Office and external customers by:
- Providing professional assistance in the investigation of tidal and geodetic phenomena, extraction and compilation of tidal and geodetic information, and participate in maintenance and development of tidal and Geodetic Data Bases.
- Assist in preparation of Australian National Tide Tables and other publications.
- Undertake simple calculations on tidal and geodetic data.
- Assist in the continual development of the Tidal and Geodetic section through improvements in quality management documents.
**About our Team**
The Australian Hydrographic Office is the Department of Defence agency responsible for the publication and distribution of nautical charts and other information required for the safety of ships navigating in Australian waters. Tides and Geodetic Control (TGC) is responsible for managing tidal height, tidal stream and geodetic data required to produce the Official tidal publications for Australia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Timor Leste.
This includes providing guidance through instructions and standards on datum transformations, to manage the vertical and horizontal datum of all data held and publications produced by the Australian Hydrographic office. Guidance is also provided to the HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP) for data collection required to support the development of the AUSHYDROID.
The TGC team consists of a combination of 1 military and 6 civilian personnel. The team has a mixture of qualifications in the fields of Land Surveying, Hydrographic Surveying and Oceanography.
The person provides support to the Tides and Geodetic Control Section specifically supporting bespoke tool called Tides Information System; that has been and continues to be developed. The person provides high quality geospatial data management and analysis to support activities including nautical publication creation, HydroScheme support, foundation dataset development, and research and development ensuring timelines are met.
The person provides tides and geodetic Subject Matter Expertise advice through their:
- Intermediate ArcGIS skills.
- Intermediate Python skills.
- Analytical skills.
- Experience with relational database management, geodatabase design and GIS data management.
- Project management skills including external and internal stakeholder engagement.
- Experience contributing to written standards, specifications and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
