Ararat Abattoirs Pty Ltd is seeking a reliable and hardworking Maintenance Labourer to join our team at our busy meat processing facility in rural Victoria. This hands‑on role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, problem‑solving, and contributing to the efficient operation of a dynamic production environment.
This is a full time position working dayshift 6.00am - 4.00pm Monday to Thursday with the expectation to perform a reasonable amount of weekly overtime.
About the Role
As a Maintenance Labourer, you will support the day‑to‑day operations of the site by performing general repairs, preventative maintenance, and construction tasks. You will work with a variety of tools and equipment—including welders, power tools, hydraulic cutters, and machinery—while ensuring all work is carried out safely and to company standards.
This role involves physical labour, working at heights, and exposure to varying temperatures and conditions typical of the red meat industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform general maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance across the site
* Set up kill floor, run chains, and check equipment performance
* Attend breakdowns and repair machinery including forklifts, tractors, and trucks
* Construct and repair stainless steel benches and general steel work
* Inspect and maintain chains, drains, lighting, oils, hydraulics
* Unblock drains, repair water leaks, grease machinery, and manage fencing/yards
* Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment
* Complete required documentation and follow company procedures
* Participate in training and follow all OH&S policies
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
* Physically fit and capable of manual labour required in an abattoir environment
* Able to work safely and follow OH&S procedures
* Comfortable working at heights and in repetitive or demanding conditions
* A problem-solver with hands‑on skills including tool use and basic fabrication
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
* Willing to work across various areas of the facility as required
Relevant licences (e.g., forklift, machinery operation, welding experience) are beneficial.
