Bastion Defence is now seeking expressions of interest from experienced Detail Designers to support Australia's sovereign naval shipbuilding industry on a major Australian maritime Defence program.
Role Purpose
Deliver accurate, compliant and high-quality design and detail drafting to support ship systems, equipment and production activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce and maintain detailed drawings, assemblies, parts lists and technical documents.
* Draft in accordance with relevant standards (DEF(AUST) 5085, AS1100, AS/NZS 1102, geometric tolerancing).
* Apply configuration and change control to approved design updates.
* Use CAD and document management systems (e.g. Windchill, Teamcenter).
* Liaise with engineers, production teams, suppliers and customers to resolve technical issues.
* Ensure all work meets engineering, quality, safety, schedule and cost requirements.
* Identify and resolve drafting and design issues.
* Communicate progress, risks and issues clearly and professionally.
* Train and be competent in using Global Combat Ship-Australia (GCS-A) core engineering tools (AutoCAD, FORAN, Windchill, AVEVA ERM, CMPIC, etc)
* Use the engineering tools above to carry out Stage 2 (Spatial Integration) and Stage 3 (Production Outputs) work on the GCS-A.
* Actively identify and meet internal and external customer needs and expectations, through consultation and reporting of progress to both functional and project management.
* Ensure technical competence to enable the provision of professional design and detail drafting services.
* Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with appropriate Engineering, Drafting and Quality Management System standards.
* Effectively communicate both verbally and in written form with all stakeholder groups, raising issues to relevant stakeholder(s) in an objective, professional and timely manner.
Leadership & Coordination
* Coordinate drafting tasks and review work for accuracy and compliance.
* Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other draftspersons.
* Support work planning, estimating, schedules and progress reporting.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting processes and standards.
* Assist with risk and safety hazard identification.
Core Skills
* Strong CAD and drafting capability.
* Solid understanding of engineering and drafting standards.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Well‐organised, accountable and quality‐focused.
Qualifications & experience
* Engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience.
* Demonstrated experience in Detail Design Engineering, preferably within Naval/Maritime, Defence of Allied Industry.
* Professional learning allowance ($3000).
