About the Branch
Geoscience Australia's National Location Information Branch ensures Australia's national location information is accessible, trusted, reliable, interoperable, relevant, and sustainably managed. The Branch leads the development of the Digital Atlas of Australia.
The role
Deliver high‐quality spatial data and interactive applications that enable users to explore and understand Australia's geography, environment, and communities through the Digital Atlas platform. Work under guidance and supervision from senior team members, building capability in geospatial data management and Esri‐based app development.
Responsibilities
* Prepare, curate, and publish spatial datasets and metadata for the Digital Atlas platform.
* Manage GIS database tasks, including data acquisition, cleaning, and integration.
* Build interactive web apps and dashboards using Esri tools such as ArcGIS Experience Builder and StoryMaps.
* Develop and automate workflows using FME and Python to improve efficiency.
* Apply data‐management standards and processes to ensure compliance and interoperability.
* Collaborate with data custodians and internal teams to ensure content accuracy and alignment with national standards.
* Apply foundational GIS analysis and visualization techniques to support decision‐making and enhance user experience.
* Document processes and maintain best practices for data management, publication, and accessibility.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Science, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 2 years' experience in geospatial data management and/or web mapping application development, including familiarity with Esri GIS tools.
* Willingness to learn and apply data integration and workflow automation techniques (experience with FME or Python desirable).
* Ability to perform spatial analysis and visualization tasks under guidance, contributing to decision‐making and user‐experience improvements.
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to follow established processes and meet deadlines.
