About the role
The Senior Research and Innovation Officer works with entrepreneurs, early‐stage companies and key innovation stakeholders to provide expert advice and deliver significant policies, programs and initiatives aligned with DSD's strategic priorities. The role is responsible for managing programs and projects –including design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation –to ensure successful delivery and strong outcomes for South Australia's innovation ecosystem.
Key responsibilities
* Lead engagement with start‐ups and founders, providing expert guidance and referrals to programs, expertise, potential customers and investment opportunities that support their growth.
* Develop and deliver strategies and programs that support entrepreneurs and innovation activity, including full project management responsibilities.
* Evaluate expressions of interest and complex or highly technical business proposals, and undertake market and due‐diligence analysis to support assessment of funding requests.
* Build and maintain strong networks of mentors, investors and subject‐matter experts to support South Australian entrepreneurs.
* Monitor and review the progress of client start‐ups, capturing and analysing key metrics to inform future policy and program development.
* Contribute to whole‐of‐government strategies and action plans aimed at growing innovative and productive industries and strengthening the research and innovation system.
To apply and succeed
* Demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, startups and scale‐up businesses, and the issues that impact on their growth, sustainability and scalability.
* Experience in working with a broad range of stakeholders and customers and building trusted networks to drive organisational outcomes and goals.
* Demonstrated capabilities in business analysis with experience providing strategic analysis, risk management analysis and complex business assessment for early‐stage and/or high‐growth technology businesses.
* In‐depth knowledge of issues affecting business growth, commercialisation, innovation and viability in the South Australian economy and a detailed understanding of relevant state and federal business policies and initiatives.
* Demonstrated program and project management experience.

Qualifications
Desirable: Tertiary qualifications in a discipline relevant to the position.
Special Conditions
* The role will be offered full‐time (1.0 FTE) for up to 12 months.
* Satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check (NPC) required prior to employment.
