The role
Crown Resorts is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Employment Relations, Industrial Relations & Health, Safety & Wellbeing to join and lead a critical portfolio, alongside a dynamic and progressive legal team. Reporting to the Group General Counsel, you'll provide strategic and operational legal advice across various business units, ensuring compliance with legislative, contractual and regulatory obligations. This role will see you playing a key supporting role in Crown's IR strategy – advising on complex issues, negotiating enterprise agreements, handling employment and workplace health and safety matters, whilst effectively contributing to dispute resolution.
Based in Melbourne, you'll work collaboratively with the broader legal team and a diverse range of stakeholders across the Sydney, Melbourne and Perth properties, giving you the opportunity to work on high‑calibre and challenging legal matters. You'll bring demonstrated expertise across industrial relations, employment law, and HSW – including experience representing clients before the Fair Work Commission and the Federal Court. As a trusted advisor to senior management, you'll support Crown's legal risk management and governance frameworks with sound judgment, discretion and professionalism.
Key responsibilities
* Providing strategic and practical legal advice on IR, ER and HSW in a consultative manner
* Identifying and communicating concerns to the Group General Counsel, Senior Management, and the Board
* Drafting, negotiating and advising on various contractual matters in the IR, ER and HSW areas in collaboration with SMEs and department heads
* Developing and coaching team members on legal policies and procedures to drive compliance across all relevant legislation and company policies
* Managing employment litigation and disputes in a cost‑effective manner
* Proactively keeping up to date with legal and regulatory developments in the relevant areas
* Assisting to implement risk management strategies and other programs as appropriate, including providing information, updates and material to various departments and BUs
* Partnering with senior leaders to support key decisions and material matters
You'll have
* At least 8 years PQE with significant in‑house Legal Counsel experience at a senior level
* Strong capability in drafting and advising on a broad range of contractual matters
* Demonstrated experience in industrial law, including enterprise agreements and industrial disputes
* Ability to provide sound and relevant advice on employment and health and safety matters
* Ability to navigate complex legal issues with high levels of discretion and professionalism
* Strong negotiation, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills
* Excellent commercial acumen with a proactive approach to internal customer support
* Eligibility to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria
* Ability to obtain all required Casino Employee Licenses across VIC, NSW and WA
