Automation Analyst
The Role
We're seeking an experienced Automation Analyst to join our Quality Assurance team and drive testing excellence across Auto & General's digital ecosystem. You'll design, develop, and maintain comprehensive automated testing solutions that ensure our applications meet rigorous quality standards whilst delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, you'll contribute to evolving our automation frameworks, implement strategic testing solutions, and help establish testing best practices that enable rapid, scalable delivery. Your expertise will be instrumental in building confidence in our releases through intelligent, maintainable automation.
Your Team
You'll join our collaborative Automation Testing Team within the Technology division at our offices, reporting to the Test Lead. This dynamic team is at the forefront of quality assurance, partnering with developers, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-performance solutions that our customers can rely on.
Key Responsibilities
* UI Test Automation: Develop robust, maintainable UI automation scripts using Playwright and Cypress, translating user stories and acceptance criteria into effective test scenarios
* Framework Development & Evolution: Contribute to designing, enhancing, and scaling our automation frameworks, ensuring they support current and future testing needs
* Code Quality & Standards: Apply industry best practices for test automation, including clean code principles, peer code reviews, and documentation standards
* CI/CD Pipeline Integration: Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (Bamboo, GitLab) to provide rapid feedback on code quality and system stability
* Regression Testing: Execute, monitor, and continuously refine our automated regression suites, analysing results and collaborating with teams on defect resolution
* Automation Strategy: Develop and implement testing strategies that reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and support business goals
* Knowledge Sharing: Document test assets, share learnings with the team, and actively mentor others in automation best practices
* AI-Assisted Development: Leverage modern tools including ACE and Copilot to enhance automation script development and defect analysis
What You'll Bring
Essential Experience:
* Minimum 3 years' as an Automation Analyst, QA Automation Engineer, or similar role
* Demonstrated expertise with modern UI automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress)
* Strong knowledge of CI/CD platforms and version control (Bamboo, Bitbucket, GitLab)
* Proficiency in building and extending test frameworks using Java or C#
* Solid understanding of REST API testing principles and tools
* Excellent communication skills across technical teams, stakeholders, and management
* A pragmatic, solution-focused mindset with resilience in the face of change
Highly Desirable
* Experience with both UI automation and API/unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit)
* Familiarity with DevOps toolchains: Gradle, JFrog Artifactory, and similar tools
* Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
* Hands-on experience with containerisation (Kubernetes) and monitoring tools (New Relic, DataDog)
* Background in financial services or regulated industries
* Active involvement with professional technology bodies or communities
