Tagai State College School Tech program is inviting applications for the temporary position of Community Liaison Officer to join our team within our school community at Tagai State College until the end of term 2, 2026 with the possibility of extension.

Tagai State College secured this funding through DTET to run the TagaiTECH program for Senior students in Grade 11 and 12 in years), with the vision of making this sustainable into the future.

About The College
Tagai State College comprises 16 Primary Campuses and 1 Secondary Campus across 15 Islands and square kilometres in the beautiful Torres Strait. This position is based at the Secondary Campus on Thursday Island.

About SchoolTech
SchoolTech enables students to combine their QCE studies, Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses and Structured Work Placement, and is focused on preparing students for employment and facilitating a smooth transition from school to work.

Within SchoolTech, there is a strong focus on sustainable partnerships, particularly with, Employers, Industry bodies, Registered Training Organisations and related agencies.

About The CLO Role
A Community Liaison Officer (CLO) serves as a vital communication bridge between an organisation (such as a government agency, school, or non-profit) and the community it serves, fostering positive relationships and ensuring two-way information flow. Key responsibilities include engaging with the public, resolving issues, preparing reports, maintaining records, and coordinating community outreach and events to build trust and facilitate collaboration on shared goals.

Key Responsibilities

* Communication and Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for the public, responding to inquiries, providing information, and building relationships with community members.
* Information Dissemination: Prepare and distribute reports, briefing notes, and other documents to keep the community informed about an organisation's activities and issues.
* Conflict Resolution: Utilize negotiation and conflict resolution skills to address concerns and facilitate constructive conversations between different parties.
* Community Building: Organize and support community events and initiatives to strengthen ties and promote participation in programs and decision-making processes.
* Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders, including community leaders, government agencies, and welfare organizations.
* Administrative Support: Manage correspondence, maintain confidential files, and provide administrative support for meetings and project planning.
* Outreach and Education: Develop and deliver targeted outreach programs and educational materials to address specific community issues, such as social cohesion or crime prevention.
