Head of Payroll
Our client is seeking a Head of Payroll to lead the payroll function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across our multi-state operations. This role is pivotal in shaping payroll strategy, building team capability, and partnering with business leaders to support workforce planning.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end payroll processing and manage time/attendance through
* Mentor and develop payroll staff, fostering capability and professional growth.
* Ensure compliance with Modern Awards, EBAs, Fair Work, ATO, Superannuation, WorkCover, and Payroll Tax requirements across multiple states.
* Manage subcontractor payments and payroll allocations.
* Partner with finance, HR, rostering, and operations teams to resolve complex payroll queries and support workforce planning.
* Drive payroll system enhancements, automation, and process improvements, while delivering clear executive reporting.
* Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and documentation.
* Monitor legislative changes and implement necessary payroll updates across systems.
* Act as the primary point of contact for auditors, regulators, and external stakeholders.
* Provide payroll analytics and insights to support strategic business decisions.
* Maintain a robust control environment, ensuring payroll data privacy and security.
About You
* 8+ years' payroll experience, including 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
* Proven experience with Humanforce, Employment Hero, or similar payroll systems.
* Strong knowledge of governance, compliance, Modern Awards, and complex remuneration structures.
* Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and analytical skills.
* Professional, solutions-oriented, and able to perform under pressure.
* Industry experience in aviation, FIFO, emergency services, or construction payroll highly regarded.
