At Darwin Greyhound Association, greyhound racing is our passion. As the only registered greyhound racing club in the Northern Territory, we are entrusted with the development and promotion of the state’s greyhound racing industry.
We oversee the growth of racing across the Territory, supporting participants through race funding, prize money, and maintaining high-quality racing facilities. The Role
We are seeking a Grounds Person / Assistant Track Curator to support the Track Curator in the preparation, maintenance, and presentation of the greyhound racing track, trial track, and surrounding grounds.
This is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring all racing and training surfaces are safe, consistent, and maintained to a high standard. You will work closely with the Club Manager and Track Curator, with on-the-job training provided to develop your skills and knowledge.
Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing and maintaining the racing and trial tracks to ensure safe and consistent conditions
* Monitoring track surface composition and moisture levels, and carrying out grading, harrowing, and watering as required
* Assisting with track preparation for race days and trials, including pre- and post-event inspections and repairs
* Maintaining turf and track surfaces, including watering, repairing wear areas, and general upkeep
* Operating and maintaining plant and equipment such as mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, tractors, implements, and light vehicles
* Assisting with the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems and specialist track equipment
* Conducting routine inspections of the track and facilities to identify hazards or maintenance needs
* Maintaining surrounding grounds, including mowing, gardening, landscaping, and general horticultural duties
* Performing basic repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities
* Ensuring all areas of the venue are clean, safe, and well presented for participants and visitors
* Working collaboratively with the Club Manager, Track Curator, and racing officials to support smooth race day operations
* Adhering to workplace health and safety requirements at all times
* Undertaking general maintenance duties and other ad hoc tasks as required
This role requires flexibility, including availability for early mornings, race days, and occasional overtime to support race meetings and events.
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude who enjoys working outdoors.
* Experience operating turf or grounds maintenance equipment (e.g. tractors, mowers)
* Previous experience in groundskeeping, turf management, or similar (greyhound track experience highly regarded)
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment
* Strong awareness and commitment to workplace health and safety
* Reliable, proactive, and able to take initiative
* Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime for race preparation
* Current driver’s licence
